Roof Coating

Rubber Roof Coating

On many industrial and business buildings you will find a rubber roof, these became very popular back in the 80s as their use in the recreational vehicle industry spurred this type of use. However, far from being the maintenance free wonder that they were advertised as, owners soon found that they needed constant care to keep them from leaking. Compared too many of the other choices available however a rubber roof coating was considered to be an excellent choice. The difference between installing a rubber roof and using a rubber roof coating was that the coating was applied over the top of the existing roof structure and provided a sealed layer of protection that with a little care and maintenance could increase the lifespan of the roof for many leak free years.

It did not take long for this type of coating to find far more uses than the roof of a motorhome, one of the biggest uses has been in sealing and resealing older mobile home roofs. The older mobile home roofs were typically made from sheets of tin and all of the seams were sealed at the factory. With the heat of the sun the metal expands and then contracts at night causing many of these poorly sealed seams to leak the next time it rains. To combat this problem many mobile home owners use a rubber roof coating to seal the entire roof from one end to the other, prevent any further leaks. As long as a quality coating is used it should last for several years before reapplication becomes necessary to prevent leaks from forming. While the first rubber roof coating on the market was truly made from real rubber, the modern ones are made from non toxic acrylic latex rubber that is made to reflect the sun's harmful ultra violet rays and resist problems like cracking, and blistering.

These new roof coatings are designed to be non-toxic and non- polluting and as such are relatively harmless to the environment if disposed of properly. On top of this they are far easier to apply than the old fashioned rubber coatings. These rubber roof coatings can be applied to almost any roofing surface including but not limited to, galvanized steel, asphalt shingle, bituminous built up roofs (often called BURs), any type of wood, polyurethane foam or concrete. Essentially you can use this rubber roof coating on any surface where you need a long lasting and durable coating as it expands and contracts right along with the substrate in the heat and cold. While there are many different companies offering their own rubber roof coating for your use, if you want one that comes directly from a leader in the roof coatings industry, you need to contact American Weatherstar. Every coating they sell is designed to provide the highest quality of watertight protection and level of energy efficiency possible.
