FAST Academy Two-Day Breakdown

The inaugural FAST (Fluid-Applied System Techniques) Academy at American WeatherStar, held on November 5 & 6, 2014, was a great success! Thank you again to all who took the time to come. Guests for the two-day conference included 24 contractors from across the country and equipment reps from Graco, Inc. and Rooftop Equipment. The Academy was held at the American WeatherStar corporate facility in Mobile, AL. It included traditional in-class courses and hands-on product/system applications using the most advanced coatings equipment on the market.

The primary goal of the event was to bring together American WeatherStar Contractors, contractors, field representatives and staff members in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment to expand knowledge of the coatings industry, strengthen skill sets with product application techniques and share tips on best sales practice as group.

American WeatherStar President Brian O’Donnell gives an in-depth review of the coatings industry and presents the pro/cons of standard product chemistry.

Bobby Norrell and Rodney Carter of Casualty Consulting Group of America, Inc. (Dallas, TX) provide insightful advice on best sales practices including methods of approaching potential customers and securing deals

Bob Burns of Rooftop Equipment gives expert tips on how and when to use roller accessories as well as application techniques as he takes us through the complete profile roller process-from opening the box-to finished application-to clean-up and equipment care.

Attendees get hands-on with fluid-applied product profile rollers from Rooftop Equipment. First applying the base layer of the Met-A-Gard metal roof coating system (AWS Acrylic 211) to metal roofing panels, then applying the base layer for the Ure-A-Sil flat roof coating system (AWS Urethane 520) to granulated modified bitumen.

Attendees learn about the components of the core American WeatherStar roof coating systems (learn more about the systems) and the conditions/factors each system is designed to restore and handle.

American WeatherStar Business Development Center Director, Kristin Dixon, explains the effectiveness of custom lead generation campaigns available to AWS Contractors. She further breaks down statistics, proving the outstanding ROI’s for contractractors utilizing the program to gain competitive advantages in strategically targeted markets-these markets are specific to Contractors ensuring they are never in competition with another AWS Contractor.

Graco, Inc. Rep Ray Radetich gives a step-by-step tutorial on the Graco GH 833 Big Rig Gas Hydraulic Airless Sprayer along with hose options and available accessories. Contractors demo the gas-powered rig by spraying AWS Red Oxide Rust Prime 912 on the metal roofing panels (coated with AWS Acrylic 211 on day 1) then complete the application of the Ure-A-Sil system by spraying the AWS Silicone 410 top coat to the dry granulated modified bitumen (base-coated with AWS Urethane 520 on day 1.)
