Leadership Training: Emotional Intelligence in Action

Recently, several American WeatherStar team members had the opportunity to attend a powerful leadership workshop titled “Emotional Intelligence: Career Enhancer or Career Killer?”—part of the Leadership Training and Networking collection presented by Express Employment Professionals of Baldwin County. The event took place at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, offering an inspiring setting for a day focused on personal and professional growth.

The workshop centered around the concept of Emotional Intelligence (EQ), highlighting how this one critical skill can significantly impact a person’s career trajectory—for better or worse. High emotional intelligence is linked to stronger leadership, better collaboration, and greater overall job satisfaction, while low EQ can often lead to communication breakdowns and missed opportunities.

Throughout the day, our team learned about the four core pillars of Emotional Intelligence and explored practical ways to improve their own EQ. They participated in exercises to assess their current emotional intelligence scores and picked up strategies to enhance their leadership presence, improve teamwork, and strengthen workplace relationships.

Beyond the educational value, the workshop also gave our team time to connect with peers from other organizations, share experiences, and explore the museum itself. The venue provided a unique and engaging backdrop that made the day both enriching and enjoyable.
