Colbert Heights High School in Tuscumbia, Alabama, utilized American WeatherStar’s Wall-Coat™ System to waterproof concrete surfaces where windows had been removed and the openings filled in. The project provided a durable, weather-resistant finish designed to protect these areas against moisture intrusion and long-term exposure to the elements.
Waterproofing Former Window Openings
When windows are removed and their openings permanently filled, the resulting wall sections require effective waterproofing to protect against moisture intrusion. These areas become part of the building’s exterior envelope and must withstand the same environmental conditions as the surrounding walls.
At Colbert Heights High School, an American WeatherStar Platinum Approved Contractor selected the Wall-Coat™ Architectural Wall Coating System to protect the concrete surfaces associated with the former window openings. The system’s elastomeric properties, flexibility, and weather resistance made it a suitable solution for this application.
Applying the Wall-Coat™ System
The waterproofing process began with Clear Prime 9000™, a water-based primer designed to promote adhesion and reduce coating absorption on porous concrete surfaces. This provided a suitable foundation for the protective wall coating system.
Following primer application, Elastomeric Wall Coat 2100™ was applied as both the base coat and top coat. The high-performance acrylic elastomeric coating forms a seamless, flexible membrane designed to resist moisture intrusion, bridge minor surface cracks, and withstand prolonged UV exposure and weathering.
Together, the primer and coating layers provided a protective finish for the concrete surfaces where the windows had previously been located.
Long-Term Protection for the Building Exterior
The completed Wall-Coat™ System provided Colbert Heights High School with a durable, weather-resistant finish designed to protect the former window openings against moisture intrusion and environmental exposure.
The project includes a 10-year American WeatherStar Material Warranty, providing additional confidence in the long-term protection of the treated surfaces.
