The Navy Exchange Building in Jacksonville, Florida, had a 29,000-square-foot modified bitumen roof with areas of persistent ponding water. American WeatherStar’s Envir-O-Sil™ Roof Restoration System provided a long-term solution designed to restore the existing roof and withstand these challenging conditions.
Research
The existing granulated modified bitumen roof experienced ponding water in areas reaching approximately two inches deep and remaining for up to two days after rainfall. Because prolonged exposure to standing water can be particularly demanding on a roof system, resistance to ponding water was an important consideration when selecting a restoration solution.
American WeatherStar Approved Contractor AIKO Enterprises, Inc. selected the Envir-O-Sil™ Roof Restoration System. Featuring High-Solids Silicone 412, the system creates a seamless, waterproof membrane with excellent UV and weather resistance and is designed to withstand long-term ponding water conditions.
Process
Before restoration began, the existing roof was pressure washed and treated with EcoCleaner 925 to remove dirt, dust, residue, and other surface contaminants. Acrylic Bonding Primer 905 was then applied to promote proper adhesion between the existing granulated modified bitumen substrate and the new coating system.
Silicone Brush-Grade 422 was used to reinforce seams, penetrations, and other critical roof details, providing additional waterproofing protection in these vulnerable areas. Once the roof was properly prepared and detailed, two coats of High-Solids Silicone 412 were applied across the roof, creating a seamless silicone membrane designed to provide long-term waterproofing protection and withstand ponding water.
Result
The completed Envir-O-Sil™ System restored the existing modified bitumen roof with a seamless, waterproof, and UV-resistant silicone membrane designed to withstand long-term ponding water conditions.
The United States Navy received a 15-year American WeatherStar Roof Coatings Material Warranty for long-term protection.
